No doubt you will hear a lot about BMW i in coming years. The new sub-brand of the German giant signifies sustainable vehicles and mobility solutions.
Two new models are scheduled for launch under BMW i from 2013 – the BMW i3 (previously known as the ‘Megacity Vehicle’, a mass-production electric car) and the BMW i8 (a hybrid drive sports car based on the BMW Vision Efficient Dynamics concept car).
In addition, BMW has formed a venture capital company in New York called BMW i Ventures to expand its range of mobility services. The new company has already secured a stake in My City Way which is a mobile phone app providing users with information on public transport, parking space availability and entertainment.
BMW says this groundbreaking new direction not only broadens its car-related activities, it also focuses on solutions to improve usage of existing parking spaces, intelligent navigation systems with local information, premium car-sharing and intermodal route planning.
